Warner Archives will release Operation Eichmann on DVD on December 11, 2012. Retail price is $18.95. No extras.

This film has some notoriety today with its casting of two actors who within four years would be portraying two bungling POW camp officers in the TV series Hogan's Heroes -- Werner Klemperer (in the title role here) and John Banner. Seeing the future Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz playing murderous psychopaths laughing uproariously at the memory of concentration camp inmates being gassed is, to say the least, unnerving.

WA is also releasing the 1962 film Hitler the same day.

I assume somebody at Warner with a sense of humor figured two films about Nazi war criminals and mass murderers would make appropriate stocking-stuffers for Christmas.

A warped sense of humour, I would say.

It was a facetious remark, obviously, but anyone who really did think the timing of the two films' release was appropriate would be warped in many more ways than merely their sense of humor.
