Dvd version??

I have not seen this movie yet, and I was wondering wich dvd version I shold purchase for the best value(picture quality, extras etc..)? Amazon has many editions listed and play.com has quite a few also. Does anyone have any knowledge of wich one would be the best to buy?

All the versions out there at the moment are all terrible, all are 1.33(4.3).instead of widescreen.
Rotten quality.I would wait until Paramount release a decent copy.

Only version I can vouch for personally is a Front Row release I bought a few years back. The picture quality was decent, and it was framed at 1.78 or 1.85; not anamorphically enhanced, of course, but for 3 bucks, what can you do?

It should be noted that the edition I bought had "Widescreen Edition" printed across the top of the cover; I've since since seen versions of the Front Row release in stores that did not have this, so I can't say whether they are the same version or not.

a version from the "Digital Gold Collection can be found on Amazon, its Widescreen at 1.85

Greetings, all,

Actually not all DVD editions of "One-Eyed Jacks" are pan & scan. One I am certain of since I own it is wide screen. It is the DVD published by DIGIVIEW Productions. No address, and the case states "Made in China" (!). Also the information on the back of the case states "Standard Full Frame". However, having just watched it again last night I can confirm this edition is wide screen, despite labeling to the contrary.

For what it is worth, the transfer is fair, at best with very unsteady color. Possibly a result of the VistaVision process, though I think a more conscientious transfer could correct this. Nevertheless this edition is quite watchable.

A note of caution however, I ordered this used through an Amazon re-seller and received a pan-and scan version that I promptly returned. I ordered it again and was certain it was the DIGIVIEW Productions version I was getting. Yes this is wide screen.

Just be sure it is the above-named publisher. It is very inexpensive since the copyright is evidently lost.

However on a price./benefit ratio the DIGIVIEW is unbeatable.

Remember caveat emptor.

bye,

I have the same one as Steve, and will vouch the same way. The colors have lost something, but not as much as the "Alpha' prints, etc. And it is widescreen.
I'm VERY happy with it, unless a remaster gets done, which is very doubtful.

I had the Platinum DVD for years but just found the Front Row edition. It has a sharper focus and better sound and is wide-screen. No mention of this on the cover at all. It'll do me till a re-master happens (if I don't die first !)

Anybody able to show me a picture of what the Digiview cover looks like?

I just got a copy of the Diamond Entertainment version, which has the 141-minute cut of the movie in widescreen.

Guess I can set aside my copy from Westlake Entertainment Group (which I have yet to even open.)

I have the wide screen version also and, as stated above, while the colors are not the ideal it is still NOT pan-and-scan and it is the best version I have purchased. First off, this particular copy I just bought has a case that has a red band across the top that says WIDESCREEN EDITION and the cover design is of Brando in a dark outfit and dark hat looking back over his shoulder as he shoots with his left hand to his side. The actual disk is a "TGG" brand and the item number of the disk is 98018 printed on the disk itself. And, if you look at the back cover of the case it shows also that it is a TGG brand disk. By the way another person who wrote a review on Amazon also stated that the TGG copy is the best copy of this movie available and I think that is true. Not to get too over-heavy on plugging businesses but I think I bought this from Gohastings, an Amazon seller of dvds and a large business. They are price competitive and very reliable and if you order something that is not as stated they will gladly make it right.

Of course! Now you can get it in any format. That first posting was from 5 years ago.

This is a shame, an important film in the history of cinema doesn't see a deserved light of day just because some bureaucrats think otherwise. There hasn't been a decent version of this film for people of the current era to enjoy...quite disgusting.

I remember watching a laserdisc version that looked very good.
