OMFG!!! Let me catch my breath first.....

Holeee spit! I just finished watching this movie on cable and I have to say that was one of the best comedies I have ever seen. The fast pace was very dizzying but very, very enjoyable. I loved all the inside jokes, and I probably only got half of them. Highly recomend this, especially to film buffs.

One, Two, Three gives His Girl Friday a run for its money as being the fastest comedy ever made.

Extremely underrated movie. I believe One, Two, Three is Billy Wilder's best comedy, but I know I'm one of the very few who shares this opinion.

I was twelve when this movie came out and I loved it then and I love it now. How square was I--my friends all had Warren Beatty and Frankie Avalon hanging on their locker doors--I had a picture of Horst Bucholtz! And Pamela Tiffin was a great ingenue--wish she would have done more films.

Your absolutely not on your own. Billy Wilder himself said in an interview when asked which he would consider to be his best film:
- serious movie: Witness of the prosecution
- comedy: One, Two, Three

I have seen the movie about ten times (both the German and the English language versions) and still find some jokes I did not get before.

One, Two, Three is indeed a very funny film, with a great Cagney performance ... but your quote from Wilder. for me, just shows that a director is not always the best judge of his body of work ... in my opinion,"Some Like It Hot" is the greatest American film ever made.

Some of his films that Hitchcock disliked were very good, such as "Dial "M" For Murder" and the under-rated "Under Capricorn" ... he thought that his best film was "The Trouble With Harry", which I find unfunny and labored.

Of course, these are only personal opinions.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

reply

I've always heard that Hitchcock thought of Shadow of a Doubt as his best film. I could be wrong, though.

reply

Hitchcock does indeed most often quote Shadow of a Doubt as his favourite of his own films ... but in his extensive interviews with Trouffaut also he also gave the same impression about The Trouble with Harry a couple of times
... my point still stands ... I personally find both among his duller films ... personally its Strangers on a Train, North by Northwest, Notorious, Psycho, Vertigo and The Birds that do it best for me.

Hitchcock was particularly scathing of Under Capricorn, which was a fine film in my opinion ... I think that the box office returns frequently influenced his judgement of his films.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

I'm with you all the way. I know that most people say that Some Like It Hot is the best, but I really don't find it all that funny. One, Two, Three just knocks me out. Plus, I love how subversive it is with its take-no-prisoners approach to criticizing political ideologies in such a humorous manner that it's virtually impossible to find it offensive. It flat out says *beep* Communists, *beep* capitalists, and *beep* Nazis, but you're laughing so much that you don't hear it.

"Why do you find it so hard to believe?"

Ridiculously Underrated!

I just finished watching One, Two, Three for the first time. Man, I haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a long time. James Cagney was fantastic, as was the rest of the cast! The cinematography and music were also outstanding.

reply

Respectully disagree. Fast paced and chock full of funny inside jokes, the film was, otherwise, neither clever nor funny. Tragic to see Wilder devolve into Blake Edwards on this one.

What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?

Been watching this movie ever since its first network airing back in the '60s (somehow missed it in 1961) and have always thought it was the funniest movie ever made. Probably seen it 20 times over the years - and watched it again on DVD yesterday. My opinion hasn't changed; it just makes me howl. To me, the fact that Cagney wasn't nominated, let alone didn't win, an Oscar is a crime.

(The only gag that doesn't hold up is the Red Buttons bit with the balloons. It seems kinda lame now, but remember it had my parents in hysterics way back when.)

Just hearing the phrase "Sitzen machen" is enough to make my day.

I agree, this is a great comedy

I was eight when this comedy was shown at the drive-in. It was a stitch. I saw the end of it tonight while channel surfing. Just loved it.

Definitely, by the end, I felt almost out of breath. The pace was lightening fast, led by a 62 year old man. We should all hope to have that level of energy at retirement age.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Wonderful movie! I first saw it about two years ago and fell in love with it. I've introduced several people to it since then.

"Put yer pants on, Spartacus!"

Let's just admit that Some Like It Hot is Billy Wilder's best comedy, and probably one of the (if not THE) best comedy ever. It's got everything.

But that one was really good two. I was just a little annoyed by the acting on the young couple's characters.

The scene where James Cagney uses a line from "Little Caesar" is priceless. "Is this the end of Rico?"
