King Kong tribute?

Do you think the scene where the twins are introduced to the public bears a slight resemblance to the scene in King Kong where Carl Denham introduces Kong?

Definitely, all of these monsters-invade-civilization movies are based on King Kong which was the first movie where a monster invades a large city. King Kong was the first in the genre. Just look at all of the similarities. In Mothra, an expedition goes to an uncharted island and discovers a primitive world just like in Kong and both expeditions bring back something from that island that unleashes destruction and mayhem.

If GODZILLA was Japan's "answer" to THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, I've always seen MOTHRA as Japan's "answer" to MIGHTY JOE YOUNG!

Both movies have "good" monsters, music, and show business, and cute girls who just wanna go home! Oh yeah, and happy endings.

And King Kong was based on The Lost World. So it's not quite the first o the Genre.

It's funny that King King Vs Godzilla was the first major VS Toho films (Anguirus is really just a sub plot of Raids Again) and then Mothra vs Godzilla is the 2nd. Mothra Vs Godzilla is my 2nd favorite Touhou franchise films after the original Gojira.
