when perce first meets Rosalyn, she is sitting in the car.
he ask's 'are you an old friend of Gays'?
she smiles, wistfully and says, pretty old.
is that a reference on how she feels about her age? (she was 34)
I always thought that, that maybe she was feeling old at that time.

Probably meant that she felt she knew him, who he really was inside, in spite of having meant only recently.

Is that the latest fashion?

I also think she meant that since Gay didn't keep friends long that for him she was an old friend meaning that several weeks was longer relationship than usual.
