Made this for his wife?

Can't see why MM hated this movie? lol
One scene is showing her rear in jeans bouncing another is a guy in a bar smacking her rear. Arthur Miller made her look weepy and dumb at a time she wanted to be known for a more serious role.

___One review said Marilyn was more a nature symbol than a sex symbol in this role. And, it might be said she was all women, even all humanity, at least the sensitive ones. But, Marilyn hated the film, and how she looked.
___Arthur, ever the opportunist, created a Marilyn character that he wanted her to be, rather than who she really was. He did the same again with 'After the Fall' two years later. Like everyone whoever knew Marilyn he would live out his life in her reflection, or shadow.
___It must have been agony for Monroe to work on this film. Ready to.divorce, hooked on drugs, working in 110 degree temperatures, and still be expected to look wonderful. Plus, the fact she did back to back films in 1960 without a rest.

reply

John Huston made the film, not Arthur Miller.

It was Arthur who wrote it, while married to Monroe.

He wrote it, it was Huston who made it, so how she looked would have up to him. Plus the marriage was more or less over at this point. Monroe was imbibing large amounts of alcohol and prescription drugs at the time, so it's surprising she could remember anything about it at all.
