Surrealism is based on the in-congruence of a soul living in the material world, and American Surrealism is more specifically based on the nightmare of living the American Dream while never having a hope of succeeding.

shareWhat you are describing is called, "life" and it doesn't just play out that way in the United States. This disconnect that you are lamenting upon occurs in every corner of the civilized world. Some will win. Some will lose. Some are born to sing the blues. The movie never ends.
You can not reasonably blame every bit of life irony upon the reported disillusionment of the "American Dream."
Sometimes, simply living anywhere that there is society on the planet earth is enough to provide similar disenfranchisement.
