NIGHTIME SCENES

There were several scenes in this film that were supposed to be at night, or at least in the evening.
But they look like they were shot in broad daylight with a dark filter over the camera.
Why was this? Some kind of union regulation?

The scene that always annoyed me is when they are camping out the night before the roundup. They all look up at the stars and you see a night sky. Then when the camera cuts back we see daylight and clouds. I always wondered why.

The technique is called "day for night" and makes everything look like twilight.

"La Nuit Americaine"!

Yeah, "day for night" in old movies & TV shows is never convincing.
