Masterpiece

"Matka Joanna od Aniolow" is one of my favourite polish films. Hell yeah, it's even one of my favourite films at all! You can call it "psychology drama", "dramma" or even "horror". Very good acting, the editing is just perfect and that disturbing ending...!

Preety controversial and dark movie. I recommend. 10/10.

I am looking forward to seeing this. It has just been released on DVD in the UK: http://www.secondrundvd.com/release_mjota.php

This film has shot to my top 5 of all-time. I witnessed some of the greatest and absurd cinematography ever in this film - the script, the acting, the hysteria - remarkable.
If you don't already own a copy of MJOTA then you better get one, you won't regret it.

And to knock you off, here in Poland "Matka Joanna Od Aniolow" (or "MJOTA" :)) was released as a cheap DVD with bad sounds and hardly any extras *beep* any extras as all if my memory serves me well). Shame on us.

The DVD released in the UK suffers from a scruffy picture and the sound isn't great, but apparently, it's the best that can be produced from the original source, so don't think that you're being too hard done to, zombie. I've waited a long time to see this film and I wasn't disappointed.

Yeah, the dvd's are really bad quality but its worth it because this movie is really great. I'd consider it a thriller though..maybe even horror but that's a bit of a stretch.

I take it you are referring to the Second Run release: http://www.secondrundvd.com/release_mjota.php

It's not the greatest transfer but it certainly is 'watchable'. Not a masterpiece IMO but a VERY good film: 9/10.

The Brazilian DVD was probably "based" on that DVD then, if it's the best. I consider the video quality to be acceptable (although there are so many scratches!) and the audio was quite effective.

It's the first Polish film I've seen. 8/10.

The movie has been restored - if you watch the trailer and the comparison-movie in the "gallery", it looks really good. Hopefully this will be released anywhere...

The Portuguese Film Archives proudly showed a new copy in 35mm from the Polish original theatrically shown in 1977 in that country. I believe there is a (crude) cut during the exorcism, when the nun takes off her veil and rips open the top of her outfit. But the quality of the wonderful b&w cinematography, and perfectly registered sound are there.
«Shop around» for the best DVD money can buy, because this great piece of philosophy on religion, science, and low middle ages should be seen in its intended purity.

Certainly masterful and with moments of creepiness and malevolence that made it feel like horror.

For those who like this I recommend The Cremator - a black and white masterpiece that, similarly, explores philosophy, theology and evil.
