DVD arrives 8/23/11

Master of the World is finally coming to DVD -- technically, DVD-R -- on August 23, 2011, when MGM is releasing it as one of its "Limited Edition" MOD classic DVD titles. Retail price is $19.99. Most sites list these DVDs at $24.99, then "reduce" them to $19.99. Amazon occasionally reduces the prices by $2-$4, but otherwise $19 is pretty standard.

So far the films in this series have been of very good quality, so it's likely MOTW will follow suit. This release also bodes well for other films released on VHS through the MGM Midnight Movies series, but for some reason never put out on DVD, such as The Quatermass Xperiment. We shall see.

But it's great to see that this unusual and intriguing film is finally coming to DVD. Though some of its effects are a bit dodgy, it has a great cast, a surprisingly thoughtful script, excellent music and good performances, all of which go to make this solid little AIP film a standout of its kind.
