Remember when this was shown on American TV in the 1980s?

Anyone remember when this movie was broadcast across the United States in the 1980s? I think it was shown on MTV (MTV also showed "Refer Madness"). MTV had good taste. When they showed "The Mask," you could actually pick up 3-D glasses for it at 7-Eleven. Those were the good old days....

Yes! I remember seeing this on TV as a kid, maybe around the fall of 82, but it was over one of the regular broadcast channels. We didn't have cable in our town at the time so it was definitely a channel we could pick up through our rooftop antenna. It creeped the heck out of me. I only recently saw it again and the 3D sequences are as weird as I remember them.

There was another 3D movie shown on TV around the same time and I'm pretty sure it was GORILLA AT LARGE. I recall there being a brief segment before they showed the movie where a bunch of 3D gimicks were demonstrated, like pointing a cane at the camera and other stuff.

We had fewer channels back then but no shortage of different programming.

"Gorilla at Large" and "Revenge of the Creature" aired around the same time as "The Mask" did in the NYC area back then.

No blah, blah, blah!

My girlfriend and I are watching this tonight. I have the Elvira version but saw it back in 82. I forgot how long ago it was when I watched it and remember the 7-11 buy a Slurpee and get the glasses.

"All year long you have been calling him Bob, his names not Bob, it's Bob, Bo." "Bo"

Watched it with a couple friends on a local station (with lots of hype over the previous week). A couple grocery stores in town offered the glasses for a dollar, or I think free with purchases of soda or movie snacks. I'd seen "Creature from the Black Lagoon" on a movie screen (and got a headache about an hour into it) and got the 3D effects, but didn't get them watching this on TV, like my friends did. (Turned out I needed glasses.)

It was the spring or summer of 1982 when they did that. It had to be then because I remember seeing it with a friend I only associated with during that period of time. I live in upstate NY and they were selling the cardboard 3-D glasses at my local Burger King. Sure brings back a lot of great memories. They did it with this movie and then the next one was the sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon (not sure of the exact title) a few weeks later. After that I don't think they did it again.

Yes they were good ol days...

I saw it with my younger brother in the fall of 1982 on WPIX channel 11 in New York shortly after another 3-D film "Gorilla at Large" aired. The host of "The Mask" broadcast was the late magician Harry Blackstone Jr. He was the one who would tell us viewers to put our 3-D glasses on when the doctor in the film put on the mask.

The version I saw once long ago seemed to have a different music score than the version I saw recently.

Anyone else see something like that?

The Mask, along with Gorilla at Large and Revenge of the Creature were shown on Denver TV channels, 2 (KWGN-Independent) and I think channel 7 (CBS) back in the summer of '82. Their was also another 3-D movie that aired on channel 2 called Dynasty (1977) aka "Qian dao wan li zhu". This was a kung fu flick that was pretty decent, with cool effects. Would love to see it again!

When the Mask aired, the mom of my best friend actually still had the original 3-D glasses that she obtained from the 3-D viewing of the Mask back in '61! We watched the Mask together, my friend and I with our 7-11 glasses and his mom with her Mask 3-D glasses. Cannot recall if her glasses worked as good as ours did.

I have the Mask on DVD w/ the glasses. If this comes out on BR, I am definitely picking it up!
