Alec Guiness great as Mr. Asano

Movie girl: I was born in the 50's and still love this film which I find to be
be very profound and touching. Mr. Asano was portrayed with eloquence and grace by the wonderful Alec Guiness.

Though the character was not Japanese, the picture still remains poignant and touching to me.

I can well understand that both were prejudiced because of personal tragedy during the war. When they have settled their differences and find that they love each other, it is to be hoped that they eventually married.

A true test of a good film is to forget momentarily that it is a film we are watching; a work of fiction.

To me quality means a lot still and I like this film. I feel that it could be a success today with great performances like this even if the right race does not enact the story.
