Michel = Jean-Pierre Melville?
Melville was known to drive around in a convertible wearing a cowboy
hat and Raybans. Is the Michel character an homage to, or dig at,
Melville? This is a question, not a comment.
I just watched "Lola" and this was also my immediate reaction. Melville did appear in "Breathless" (and one of the characters from "Bob le Flambeur" was used in it). In the DVD extras Demy said Godard was responsible for getting "Lola" made because he introduced him to the man who produced it, who had also produced "Breathless."
