character ages?

So how old are Lola, Roland, and Michel? And how old was Lola when she got pregnant? How old were Lola and Roland when they last saw each other? How old is the kid?

The answers are all in the movie. For your benefit, here are my notes from the viewing of the DVD:

Chapter 2: "Seeing Michel" - Michel's mother, Jeanne, says Michel left 7 years ago.

Chapter 5: "A Dictionary" - At the bookstore, Roland tells Madame Desnoyers, "I feel 10 years younger. 15 years." Was that how long ago he had last seen Cecile (Lola)? He also says he lost track of Lola after the war. So he hasn't seen her since 1945(?). 15 years from 1945 would put us in 1960, the year Lola was made.

Chapter 8: "Cecile" - After bumping into each other, Lola tells Roland she hasn't seen him in "10 years." Roland immediately adds, "More, since the war."

Chapter 12: "Practice" - Here's the exchange between Lola and one of her co-workers at the cabaret after Lola sings "C'est moi, c'est Lola":

Lola - "I must run. I have a date at 8:00."
Co-worker - "With Frankie?"
Lola - "No. A guy I hadn't seen in 15 years!"

Chapter 13: "Catching Up" - Roland tells Lola, "Last time I saw you, you had pigtails." And Lola says, "I must have been 10 or so." Later, she asks him, "What have you done for 10 years?"

Chapter 14: "Story of Michel" - Lola tells Roland how she first met Michel, "It was my 14th birthday ... I fell madly in love with him ... It was love at first sight ... Then he left and I didn't see him for ages ... He took me to the seashore. His name was Michel. And That's when the "accident" happened."

Later in her apartment, Roland tells Lola, "10 years ago, I left out of fatigue and boredom."

Chapter 17: "Not Mutual" - Lola tells Roland, "I don't love you ... We barely know each other." And Roland says, "... Let's call it love at first sight." To which Lola replies, "At 16, yes, but we aren't 16 anymore."

Based on all these, you can draw your own conclusions about the characters' ages. If you were to ask me, I would say Lola is in her mid twenties. Roland is a probably few years older than her - in his late twenties. Michel is probably a few years older than Roland - perhaps in his thirties. Lola was probably in her late teens or early twenties when she became pregnant. When they last saw each other, Lola was probably 15 or 16 and Roland probably in his late teens. Lola and Michel's son, Yvon, is 7.

Thanks - that was terribly kind of you to go to such trouble - it helps to have that information all in one place.

That's the same impression I had of the timeline, which raises some questions about Roland's reappearance in "Umbrellas". There, he shows up sometime in 1958 as a middle-aged man, talking about how his love for Lola years earlier didn't work out (with scenes of the same empty Nantes arcade featured so prominently in "Lola" as he's telling the story). Yet, "Lola" takes place in 1960 and he is obviously a much younger man who has yet to become the jewel dealer he is in "Umbrellas". Has anyone else ever commented on this glaring lack of continuity? It would be more explainable if Demy hadn't been so specific as to when the action in each film was supposed to take place.
