The last time i saw archie

The 1961 film "The last time i saw Archie" starring Robert Mitchum and Jack Webb is based on Arch Hall Sr., writer , actor, producer of many hot rod and teen exploitation films, as well as father of Arch Hall JHr., who starred in most of them.

It was interesting to see Robert Mitchum in such a different role. I loved his hair cut! It seems strange to me that a film would be made about an actual person in an episode of his real life, without his permission, or any attempt to disguise his name. No wonder he sued them! That said, I enjoyed Webb and Mitchum together.

Back around 1960/61 I met a Col. William B. Shirley who wss a publicist for United Artists and who was promoting the moving in the Buffalo, New York area. I was working for the Statler or Statler Hilton Hotel at the time, met him as a room cleak and ask if I would be willing to help him in a promo for the movi THE LAST TIME I SAW ARCHIE. I remember he did not have a car, he got a wagon, think I even had an army outfit or something and I drove him around and we pulled this wagon to various places such as the Buffalo Evening News etc. He was such a great guy and over the years, somone who I worked with found an obituary in a newspaper with Bill's picture and history (which I still have)

Each time I pull out that article I hae tried to make contact with somone at United Artists, or now via Google to find out more information about this man. In th article it mentioned had done allot with movie theaters and I believe developed the double feature movie concept.

United Artists did get back to me a few yars ago and said they found nothing and I find that so strange. I would love it if someone knew who he was, could steer me in the right direction to find some additional history on him etc. I just do not know where to go and I found this site and figured it might be my last hope. If anyone can provide some help etc; they can contact me via my e-mail address: [email protected]

Hoping Col William B. Shirley's name will trigger somones memory and in advance so appreciate any help.
