A Very Sad Western

Just watched it again this afternoon...been a long time, like 20 years since I saw it.
Seemed a very sad tale to me, gratuitously sad and violent...they could easily have sorted that stuff out without those two going at each other with guns at the end.
But I know, there would be no film then.
