George Raft

I know George Raft makes a cameo appearance in this movie, but does anyone know how much screen time he gets? How many times do we get to see him in this movie?

reply

Not much if I remember correctly. One or two lines.

reply

He appears once but gets to speak plenty of lines and he even dances a Tango with Jerry! Jerry does not believe he's George Raft and he tries to convince him otherwise. Funny moment.

i still don't know how he ended up in the boarding house. (admittedly, i wasn't paying all that much attention to the film and i may have been seeing a severely edited print.) did george raft (playing himself) just drop by the mansion to visit with helen traubel?

I don't remember that now, it's been almost four years since I watched this film...sorry

reply

I remembered it more as the boarding house was for upward, professional and beautiful women, and of course being so they had boyfriends, who were allowed to come to the house and collect their girlfriends for dates. But I could never imagine they would be allowed to go much past the entry hall; Miss Helen Wellenmellon would have forbade them that.

reply

I wonder why they faded out so far when they were dancing. It would have been nice to see a few close-ups

reply

Probably a little too suggestive for an early 1960's audience.

Speaking of Raft, I notice a bold inaccuracy in the trivia section of this movie. It discusses Lewis laughing in the broken hat scene with Raft. In fact, the broken hat scene is with Buddy Lester, not Raft. Raft is in the movie once, in the scene when he tangos with Lewis.

reply

This is true

I watched the movie last night. Raft just happens to be sitting on the couch in the living room, casually browsing through a magazine, when Herbert (who is dusting?) notices him and starts flipping out.
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"
