Floating World


I love the scene when Noriko and the man she loves are saying their goodbyes on the train platform. We see a medium close up, behind shot of Noriko and her lover sitting on a bench, which in a way remind me of a similar shot of the granmother and father sitting on a platform, looking at the sea in 'Tokyo Story'.

It's these little moments in Ozu's film, that just blow me away. It's been said that watching his films is like seeing the ordinary two feet above ground..

It does feel like that.

I love that scene, and all the little "throwaway" scenes that make up Ozu's movies. He was extraordinary and very special.
