is Masculin Feminin good?
don't waste your money buying Chasing Amy, instead get Tokyo Story or The Seventh Seal

Last Movie I Watched:
Night and Fog - Alain Resnais

reply

The film itself is excellent. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to watching the special features, but I'd be glad to write a review on it as soon as I do.

I'd certainly like both rebecca and notorious before they are totally extinct everywhere.

reply

i love criterion, but i don't have too many, i'm a student and can't really justify the cost. but i do have:

spellbound
notorious
the royal tennenbaums
the life aquatic
the seventh seal
jules et jim

reply

All of them except those will better versions around that include:

Salo (Waterbeaver version sucks, buy either the Italian or French DVDs with stunning transfers);
The night porter (Medusa DVD is much better);
Silence of the lambs (enough said).

How many Criterions do I own? NOT ENOUGH! I am a huge fan of Criterion, although
I don't have the cash to be a true "addict". Although I have fantasy's of being wealthy enough to order the ENTIRE cataloge! Here's what I do have:

1) 8 1/2
2) Juliet of the Spirits
3) ...and the Ship Sails On
4) The Milky Way
5) Europa

The bulk of my film collection are DVD-R's that I managed to record from cable,(for my own use).

I am also a Hitchcock lover, and have around 35 of his films. Although I have some great prints recorded, I sure would love to own some of my favorites on Criterion, while they are available.

Since this is the "Jules and Jim" page I will also list my favorite Truffaut's (of those that I've seen);
1) The 400 Blows (one of my favorite films, period.)
2) Jules and Jim
3) Shoot the Piano Player
4) The Bride Wore Black (love Jeanne Moreau)
5) Mississipi Mermaid
6) The Wild Child
7) Farenheit 451
8) Small Change (Pocket Money)
9) Day for Night
10)The Last Metro

Criterion is a company that releases DVDs of independent/foreign films.

On the case it will say "Criterion Collection" along with the spine number. Each release is marked with a number. Criterion was the first company to have supplement material for films back in the LD days. I love criterion dvd's. They release some of my favorite films by Kurosawa, Bunuel, Fellini, and Ozu. Here is their website if you want to know more: http://www.criterionco.com/asp/

As for my favorite Criterion...it's so difficult to choose one. I love Bunuel's Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and Wong Kar-Wai's In The Mood For Love. Both had good extras but too bad they lack commentaries. I'm leaning towarding Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc as my favorite Criterion. Great film, good commentary, and I liked the separate scored audio track.

Two other of my fav. Criterions that I have that probably tied with Hiroshima Mon AMour is Tokyo Story and Diary of a Country Priest, Priest doesnt have many extras but as someone else says it seems right to be stripped for a Bresson film

Last Movie I Watched:
Anything Else - Woody Allen
