Beer Hall/Lifeboat

Did anyone else recognize the German beer hall song being sung? It the same song the U-Boat Capt.(Walter Sleazak) sang while rowing.... Dietrichs character translates some of the lyrics to Tracey's -"a soldier steps through the night, leaving his girl-maybe even his life"
Wow...Hitch should've had Bankheads character translate the song..but,I guess her canoodling with Hodiak won out.

Just watched this tonight, and yes I recognised the song -- perhaps mostly because I find Slezak's performance in Lifeboat so memorable.

But I have to point out that you have that song confused with Lili Marlene, which was sung in an earlier scene (also in a beer hall) where Dietrich asks Tracey if people also sing in bars in America, and he says that Americans tend to get a bit sullen in bars. She gives the translation of Lili Marlene as the words of a soldier on a battlefield, knowing that he's going to lose his girl, and lose his life.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
