I like rare birds rankings best. Although I might flip Clift and Tracey. No matter both were brilliant. Schell was the best of a great cast.

1. Maximilian Schell (one of the all-time best)
2. Burt Lancaster (he doesn't say much, but when he does...)
3. Judy Garland
4. Montgomery Clift
5. Spencer Tracy
6. Werner Klemperer (took a lot of guts for a Polish Jew to play that part)
7. Richard Widmark
8. Marlene Dietrich (by no means a bad job)

Clift
Garland
Schell

Everyone else tied for fourth.

I thought they all were outstanding, but I found Burt Lancaster's performance to be the best- the most riveting. Especially when he shouts "Enough" at Garland's testimony and cross examination and his comment to Tracy at the end that he never knew the atrocities would become so great.

2. Schell
3. Lancaster
4. Garland
5. Tracy

7. Dietrich
8. Shatner
9. Klemperer
10.Virginia Christine (when Tracy was questioning her and the husband about what they knew.)

All were FANTASTIC.
