just found film first dvd version, comments?

I have had the VHS of this for years and never got round to buying the dvd(now missing from shops)but was delighted to pick up the FILM FIRST version of the dvd for £5 in a second hand shop.

This version has the long version of the fake newsreel in it.
(Of course the newsreel is fake since it shows Britain under the German heel which never happened)
The fake newsreel looks so real that it is as big a truimph as any other part of this film.

One big and surprising error is that in the scene where a Mosley look alike is adressing a street meeting a swastika flag is shown, but Mosley's symbol was a lightning bolt, understandable since he was inspired by Italian fascism and that country wasted a lot of money sponsoring the BUF.

The newsreel section is great but I can't recall how long it is in the context of the original film so will have to watch the whole thing from start to finish.

I am amazed that people are so critical of the film,it looks amazing and the flag issue apart the research is impresssive.
It is very uneven however, some scenes could be from an ordianry big budget feature film (the nazi rally and the funeral scenes)and others make you cringe with bad acting and sound.

It is fascinating to see how early 1960s London still had lots of bomb sites and run down streets.

Still want a dvd of the FATHERLAND tv movie, and a big budget version of Len Deighton's SSGB novel but finding this dvd has made my day.

I would like to know if there is commentary on it.

I am trying to determine whether the newsreel footage of the Christmas 1914 "unofficial truce" (between British and German soldiers) was real or a reenactment. (Lining up for a photo, an impromptu football/soccer game, all in the muddy fields.)

sorry for the slow reply.
I can't find the dvd at the moment but am sure that there was no commentary and no extras.

The Christmas 1914 film must have been fake or they would see it on tv every Christmas?

There are way to many scenes in this film that are simply put ... totally amateur. The sound track is a disaster!
