The so-called 'censored' versions

I saw this film as a kid and was immediately swept up with Dany Carel's performance as Li-Lang - and her song (after all these years, I'd still like to know what the title is - I know it's about her falling in love with some loser, an ironic portend to her eventual fate).

So you might say I had an obsession with it. (I kept humming the song and could hardly wait when the film was coming up for re-broadcast - and my mother told me if I didn't shut up about it then I was not going to be allowed watch it!)

I saw it broadcast on L.A. Channel 9 (KHJ at the time), then years later my mother taped it when it was broadcast on N.Y.C. Channel 11 (WPIX at the time) as a favor to me(!).

All the scenes that people mention that were cut are present, apparently, part of the standard US-broadcast version (same as when I was a kid). All of Dany's dance is there (Nero stripping of her dress at first, then her sticking her ass out to the audience, along with a goateed gentleman's reaction to it), as well as the scene with the child star and also Nero's facial reactions as he plunges the swords into the box with Li-Lang inside.

I don't understand why, of all people, the French and others removed these scenes from their version(s).
