No love interests?

Why was there no love interests for the two men who were trying to stop Gorgo and his mother from destroying London? Very unusual for this type of film.

Same as The Thing (1982), faster pace, more monster action. Love scenes take up too much screentime.

Plus, not sure if true, but over the years speculation implies that the two leads are a couple. There's a homo vibe between them throughout. It's funny because throughout the movie they call each other partners and we know that today GLBT citizens call themselves partners. Pretty ahead of it's time! LOL.

The little boy becomes their adopted son at the end.

There's an old review of this movie on imdb from a user called zmaturin that takes the whole film as a gay love story.

Worse, there was no love interest for Gorgo. Pity Gorgo, the single monster who lives with his mother...

reply

Yeah. At least Gappa had both parents in his life; Gorgo came from a broken home. And then his mom broke everybody else's homes.

Being a single mother is never easy. I wonder what happened, maybe Gorgo's father left the house one day to destroy a pub and never came back?
The message of the movie is clear: if you come from a broken home, you're likely to grow into someone who breaks other peoples' homes. An important life lesson that was already present in the Muppets character Animal.

Just because 2 men are partners (or as we use to say in pre political times), it doesn't mean they're romantically involved. What part of "co-owners of treasure seeking ship " do you not understand?

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.
