Available as widescreen MOD DVD-R in Sept. of 2011

The Sony MOD (manufactured on demand) DVD-R of GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN, released in September of 2011, is nicely letterboxed and anamorphic. The aspect ratio, not listed in the IMDB, appears to be around 1:78-1.

Fans of this film were disappointed by the full-frame Sony DVD box of three Gidget pictures, so this new MOD DVD-R makes up for it. Now, we need a new CinemaScope MOD of the original GIDGET (1959).

Speaking of all things Gidget, there will be a documentary about the real-life Gidget and her Kohner family released this month, entitled ACCIDENTAL ICON--THE REAL GIDGET. James Darren, Sally Field, and others reportedly appear in the documentary.

Yes, and the film marked the ''official'' debut of Mimsy Farmer, who auditioned for the part of ''Gidget''. After telling her she had the part, the Producers ultimately chose to go with Deborah Walley-and Mimsy was given an unbilled bit as a ''consolation prize''. She went on to have a great career!.

I'm watching it now on TCM and unfortunately they're showing a panned-and-scanned, cropped version.
