They're releasing a DVD collection of the three Gidget movies, but they're making the same mistake they made with "The Trouble With Angels" -- they're only releasing the Pan & Scan (full screen) versions! A disappointment.
My mom bought me the DVD collection of Gidget movies for Christmas. It has a beautiful picture and you can see everything. Believe me, it's not a disappointment. You should definitely buy it.

The Roman one was cute but slightly dissapointing. I felt they had changed Gidget's character too much. but that's just my opinon, I didn't hate it :-).
Even TCM shows it in cropped pan-and-scan. Bah.
shareIf you have an all-region DVD player I recommend getting the PAL Region 4 "Gidget" collection from Australia. It includes "Gidget," "Gidget Goes Hawaiian," "Gidget Goes To Rome," and "Gidget Gets Married," The first three are in the correct aspect ratio ("Gidget" is 2.35:1, "Hawaiian" and "Rome" are 1.85:1) and all are anamorphically enhanced; "Gidget Gets Married" is 1.33:1, which is also the correct ratio (this was a TV movie from 1972, when the 4:3 aspect ratio was the norm.) Picture and sound quality is excellent.
