Out of the 6 movies on the 'Icons Of Suspense' DVD...

...This was probably my least favorite. The other five films (yes, including "Maniac") were more interesting. I think this film suffers a bit from being a tad too long, and a tad too talkative. I found the three main characters to be somewhat obnoxious until the middle of the film. Anyone else care to comment?

I agree with you on your assessment. I too found this film to be way too slow and talky. My key problem with this film is that nothing much happens; it's basically just a handful of people yakking up a storm for an overlong hour and forty-eight minutes. The acting was competent and both Diane Cilento and Gilbert Taylor's crisp cinematography looked beautiful, but overall this movie was way too blah and draggy to rate as anything more than a passable timekiller.

Well said, Woody!

Imagine sitting through the 2-hour version! It's "assessment", by the way.

It's not a great film and if you don't know exactly where it's going three-quarters into the film (and you should be contemplating it after 15-20 minutes), you haven't really been paying attention. Nevertheless, the acting, cinematography and direction (not to mention a fleeting nude scene featuring lovely Diane Cilento :-) make it worth seeing, IMO.

No blah, blah, blah!

Just watched this last night and was bored bored bored! The film was way too long and dialogue heavy. The grating pitch of Cilentos voice drove me mad, as did the mangled English from Claude Dauphin. By the end of the film I couldn't care who did what to whom and was wishing that Ronald Lewis would point his gun at me and just put me out of my misery. Dreadful.

The non stop arguing between the husband and wife got on my nerves. I watched it all the way through but I don't think I could sit through it again. One of Hammer's weakest films.

I fully feel the same way as you! If I want to hear a couple pick at eachother non stop - I would go visit my parents. they have been married almost 50 years, yet nit pick at eachother all day LOL!!!

I have to agree. Too slow, too talky, as others here have said. The dialogue barely gives the story (or the actors, for that matter) a chance to breathe. Cilento is sexy, Dauphin and Lewis are good, but overall this fails to be very involving.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

I was very disappointed... All the ingredients were there. It could've been a decent chiller but it's so bogged down. The payoff isn't even worth waiting for.
