Scene in Desert with A Leopard

I'm not sure whether this is the film or not. I think I may have seen this film ay back in the 60s, when I was a kid. All I remember is that, the film starts with a battle scene probably on a bridge.

Also, there is a scene where a leopard is set loose but in approaching the saint, the leopard tames and starts licking his palm.

My question, apologies, if this is not the appropriate forum, is this the same film?

reply

Yes it is.

The battle scene doesn't open the film, and there are two leopards, but otherwise your memory is accurate.

Thanks a lot! You won't imagine how grateful I am

You are right but the cats were cheetahs. Semi-tame cheetahs were kept for hunting.

Yes, pet leopards used by Saracens, and sent to kill the Christian in the desert near Jerusalem. He is shown offering water to them from a container. All through the film he addresses animals as brothers and sisters.

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!
