Grossly underrated

How does a film like this get so overlooked? I went into it thinking that while I liked it, it would not be much more than a merely appreciable effort (like Logan's other films -- Picnic and Sayonara -- both very enjoyable albeit flawed films that I think should be watched more by modern audiences yet understand why they're not considered "classics" necessarily).

But after seeing "Fanny"... man, I think it might be one of my favorites of all time, and by far the best of the three films Logan directed. It's just so endearing and entertaining at the same time, with brilliantly-written characters and remarkable photography (courtesy of Jack Cardiff).

It reminds me of the case with America, America and The Emigrants -- both Oscar-nominated films that are remarkable yet no one seems to remember for some reason.

Anyway... does anyone else feel the same about this movie?

Agreed completely. This film is overlooked. Of the many great scenes how about Panisse's letter that he dictated while dying. After saying that Marius and Fanny would be perfect for each other because they have always loved each other, he says that Marius would be good choice for father because, after all, he was the biological father.
