But I already have it on DVD...

It is not available in the US on a quality DVD. You can get one of the multi regional asian versions, but those are of inferior quality,or you can buy a multiregion player and get one of the region 2 DvD's,but it is NOT available in a region one release DVD..and it really needs a special edition treatment.

as reported in the digitalbits.com, the weinstein group have acquired the rights to el cid and will be releasing this movie on dvd by mid 2007................at last!it's confirmed!

at last!it's confirmed!

Maybe. The columnist for digitalbits himself added, after giving the information about the Weinstein's acquering the rights for the Bronston films, said he would believe it when he sees it.Which is where I stand. I have been dissapointed too many times by rumors about El Cid and the other Bronston epics coming out in region 2 to get excited until I have an official announcement, which we have not had yet.

What about any word on release in widescreen? Same for another Bronston epic, 55 Days at Peking?

reply

I think it is a safe bet if released in region 2 they will be in widescreen. Very few films are released on DVD nowdays that are not offered in Widescreen.

its already march and this movie will be released on dvd this coming llast quarter of 2007.........................................cant wait....weinsteins, thank you very much!.................. though it is already available in hkflix.com and yesasia.com but not region 1, though it's all region ntsc.......................

i just rented it from Netflix and I'm not sure what version it is, but the soundtrack was a shambles. The music and sound effects were ear-shatteringly loud, but the dialog was almost inaudible. Much of the film looked like it had been shot during a solar eclipse. I'm hoping the rumor of Weinstein releasing the movie on DVD means we'll finally get a decent print and crisp soundtrack - Rosza's score deserves no less.

I dont know how accurate this is, but I guess we will have an El Cid dvd coming out sometime soon..... check this site:

I wonder what impact the Weinstein's well publicised money problems will have on this release. They have postponed or ourright cancelled several films because of a cash shortage after a long string of bombs,of which "Grindhouse" is the most famous.
I will beleive it when I see a firm release date.

Kind of old news at this point. The US DVD release was extensively discussed here.
