Who knows who the jazz combo was in the Cotton Club?
-and was the pianist the same player who was featured in the bar scene later?

I don't know, but I wondered about the almost direct use of the groove from Paul Desmond's "Take Five." Given that it was the hit single from Brubeck's 1959 Time Out, and that American jazz was incredibly popular in France at the time, I imagine it must have been a household tune at the time. So I can't help but wonder at the spirit with which Misraki referenced the groove. Almost has to have been an intentional allusion, with enough of a different melody to avoid direct crediting?

Apparently, the great French jazz pianist (and later film composer) Jacques Loussier contributed to the jazz portion of the score of this film. I recall reading somewhere, in some old jazz magazine, that the player was none other than Junior Mance, but this must be verified...

No doubt this is a tribute to the Desmond tune, but with a more complicated chord progression in the vamp.

Unfortunately, the trombonist isn't moving in sync with the audio.
