I probably would have given it an 8 the first time I saw it. Now, after seeing it again, I'd give it a 9. I knew I liked it the first time, but I wasn't able to make complete sense of the plot. The second time, however, everything made perect sense. So perhaps people who see it simply aren't paying enough attention and need to give it another go.

same here. i rated it an 8 first. and a 9 after i rewatched it yesterday.

And to add to the concert of complaints (which is perfectly justified), I'd like to point out that Le Doulos is Scorsese's preferred gangster movie of all time and its plotline is Tarentino's highest rated. Not bad references, not bad at all! So people, let's talk about it and spread the news!

The rating reveals more about the respondents on IMDB than it does the film.

My view is that 'Le Doulos' is a perfect example of the French Gangster genre and I think it rates an easy 9/10.

to add another complaint, why is this film not flooded with more posters? it's really a great film, one that many people interested in crime movies should take a look at.

This had been on my DVR for ages. I finally got around to watching it, and it's fantastic! 9/10 from me. I'll be looking to pick up the Criterion DVD one of these days.

I'm a huge fan of Melville but I think the 7.9 is accurate.
