You oughta be in pictures....

My husband grew up in an Italian and Spanish neighborhood in Manhattan's West Side in the late 50s, early 60s. His mother would bring him to Central Park to play. One day, a gentleman gave my husband's mother his card, saying they were casting for a movie: an adaptation of the comic strip Dondi. He said that her son would be perfect for it. If you ever saw a picture of my husband at 5 years old, you would understand this man's enthusiasm to get him into the auditions. He said he didn't want to go. Though his Mom tried to gently encourage him, he refused.
