Terrible dialogue in the film

There are no pauses. No atmosphere. They talk, talk, talk. Almost over each other. This is a one star film.

The OP has some truly f-cked up notions of what constitutes good or "terrible" dialogue since out of all the 1950's/early 1960's sci-fi/disaster movies that I've seen, Earth Caught Fire has the best dialogue, bar none. Not only do the characters sound like authentic newspapermen, they sound like delightfully witty newspapermen. The stuff coming out of their mouths absolutely crackles - and, by the 1961 standards, it's rather unapologetically blunt & frank as well.

Its called real life... unlike modern films where people barely talk! and! every! word! matters!

I find this film brilliant, the dialog is great, the characters are great, the acting is great..

The story is great , and has just enough plausibility to suspend belief during the film..

I've always liked this film for its witty, literate, rapid-fire dialogue. Real life? Most of us only WISH we could talk in real life like the characters in this movie do!
