Underrated movie in an underrated genre

Whereas most people tend to write off these Italian sword and sandal films as
"cheap" "poorly acted" and "uninspired," I love to watch them and get much pleasure from them (I have a pretty decent sized DVD collection of these films). Therefore, I think they deserve a closer look. In my opinion, these Italian producers did a good job at re-creating the stories of Biblical and Classical history. Sumptuous sets & landscatpes, and beautiful costumes. DAVID AND GOLIATH contains these qualities. The movie opens with some interesting scenes of the Judean desert. Then there is the recreation of Jerusalem and the Temple. As far as the story goes, much of it was taken from the Bible. Some liberties were taken for dramatic effect, but I feel that this movie tells a good tale.
