Saw this at the theatre as a kid

I saw this at the movie theatre at the age of 10. These movies were my sex education. The shocker was the end. I'm surprised so many people thought highly of this film, here in the postings. At 10 I thought it was a dark, dreary, low sex exploitation budget film.

When you're ten years old, you're entitled to make mistakes! When you're older, you learn the difference between a "low sex exploitation film" and a mainstream melodrama.

Is that why it played at the bottom of the bill?

___Just saw this again after so many years. I never thought I'd ever see it again, it is hardly ever shown now. It was at the top of my holy grail list, now it's on YouTube! It has many elements of a good film, but filmed like a tv show on a cheap backlot set and a makeshift western town. The performances are the meat of this film. Ford is the best, McBain also gives a lot for a young performer. I must say the opening scene on the school bus, the high school kids are way too mature looking. Still, was Chad Everett ever THAT young? You can see how McBain would be compared with Carroll Baker, very similar types. ___Funny double standard how bad the girl is perceived for doing the same thing the boys are doing. That is where it shows it's age, and yet there are many societies around the globe where this is still true, and worse as well.
