Did the girl have sex with the young man she went dancing with to get the stocking? It was implied she did, or did he just give them to her as a gift to be nice?

Yes, she had sex with him. At that point she didn't feel it mattered anymore since, as her mother said, she was "worse than dead" after the rape.
