SHE IS AMAZING !
Brilliant ! Gorgeous.....absolutely STUNNING !

She does very well in this film and Steel Magnolias, and Terms of Endearment, and SWEET CHARITY..

I would say that The Children's Hour and Sweet Charity are her finest, most versatile performances. :) I loved Steel Magnolias, though.

She's sooooo cute. I didn't think it would be possible for someone to take my attention away from Hepburn, but she sure did!

reply

Yeh..I just want to put my arms around her...kiss her and tell her it's going to be alright......
The film and the play both make me cry sooo bad...

I am 24 so I have only known Shirley MacLaine in her post-Terms of Endearment roles as an older woman, but DAMN. She is absolutely stunning in this film. So gorgeous. The whole film for me was like "Audrey who?"

I never thought that i'd like Shirley MacLaine SO MUCH as I only watched her in In Her Shoes and The Trouble with Harry before. Well, I also knew that she was Warren Beatty's sis, and she was in Rumor Has It. But especially after I finished The Trouble with Harry,I actually thought MacLaine might be the most un-typical, unsuitable and wrong Hitchcock blonde. Actually she looked more red-headed there. It just disappointed me so much.

Anyway, MacLaine was amazingly superb in this movie that I thought she was not only very attractive in her role but also suits it perfectly and better than Hepburn. They say Doris Day was considered for it as well, I thought that'd be a joke for motherly lighthearted Doris Day. I cannot see why Karen Wright didn't LOVE her, in the other way. But did Karen stick to Martha at the end!

I later watched The Apartement, I think Shirley MacLaine is just abosulutely lovely.

At the end, I love MacLaine's accent and the way she says stuff in The Children's Hour

P.S.: Btw, I think she died her hair blond, that's something outstanding to me. Her hair was usually red, which didn't appeal to me at all.

She was beautiful in this film. She had the kind of face that made you want to hug her. She's one of the few actresses who could make me cry.

You should check out The Apartment.

Shirley MacLaine is a cutie! This movie made me like her even more. I really like her haircut, it fits her face well. :) I will try to check out those other films you all have mentioned. Thanks.

Shirley Maclaine was very sexy in an un-sexy way in this movie. That haircut, the way she held her mouth, and her fire made her very attractive to me. Audrey Hepburn was cute in that waifish sort of way she perfected but give me a choice and I'll take Shirley every day and five times on Sunday. That fire and the loyalty her character displayed in this movie made her the more desireable of the two.

'Cause I'm Black you think I did it?

reply

As a young woman, MacLaine looks like a sexier Michelle Williams, doesn't she? And yes, I thought she was far more engaging in her portrayal of Martha...but Hepburn really added a contrast, yes?

I never liked Shirleys "Terms of Endearment" stuff. But this movie, and "Some Came Running" with Frank Sinatra are excellent.

And I do think she was very pretty.

TommyPman, how can you not like Terms of Endearment! Shirley MacLaine again proved her capability of being a serious dramatic actress, and she looked amazingly stunning for that age. Just look at Jack Nicolson, and I shall say no more.

As a young woman, Shirley Maclaine is a role model and in this film she is completely amazing and her acting blow me away :O!!! She's great. And in Postcards from the edge she is hilarious.

Shirley has always been one of my favourite actresses!

Loved her in "Irma la Douce", "John Goldfarb Please Come Home", "Two Mules for Sister Sara", and "Sweet Charity". All different roles, ranging from Ditzy to Serious, and all Shirley!

"The Children's Hour" is another winner.

She was / is beautiful!!!
