What producers told censors?

Hitchcock was called by censors to defend himself because he showed toillete bowl in the very same year as this film - in his psycho. they asked him for explanation for that never-before-seen taboo on big screen. not even because of violence or boob under shower.

How on earth censors approved this?
considering a year later fbi investigated song louie louie - coincidentally because of the same circumstances as in this movie - children spread a rumour there is sex/pornography involved inside.

Check the trivia section for this film and the first review in Wikipedia article. I haven't seen the film yet, but it seems that there WAS a great deal of beating around the bush and self-censorship, and the lesbian theme wasn't presented nowhere nearly as it would be today, and for the original (straight) author wasn't that central to the plot. And maybe it helped the story wasn't new but was based on a Broadway hit.
