Despite the naysayers on one of the threads on this board, I've loved this movie since I was a kid, when it made its television network premiere on "The CBS Thursday Night Movie". There are many assets, including some fine acting by a superb cast (discounting the always-wooden George Hamilton), an intelligent script with adult dialogue that accomplishes the difficult task of telescoping a very long and complex, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and perhaps best of all, a lushly romantic score by the great Elmer Bernstein. It's too bad that there isn't a suite available on YouTube, but here's a nice version of the opening credits theme, followed by a vocal by the Four J's, which was a moderate hit during the doo-wop era.
