It is coming on TCM on June 19th at 7 P.M. EST!

Please double check your local tv guide for the time in your area. I haven't seen it but have heard it was good. I know this has been posted but I feel it also deserves it's own thread.

I tried watching some of it but got bored.

I thought I'd get bored as well but it turned out to be a pretty compelling story. I don't think Ms Baker is much of an actress, never did, but she did a good job in this film.
I would like to know more of the story, especially upon their return to America and the daughter's story.

Step on it! And don't spare the atoms!

Check wikipedia. It has some good external links, especially 2 about the daughter, a very impressive activist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_to_the_Sun.

The movie gives you a brief overview of an interracial marriage during WWII. I loved that it was based on a true story. How would you choose? Your beloved husband, who was trying to prevent war. Or your country, the USA? I am so glad Bridge to the Sun (1961) was chosen to be shown as part of TCM's Asians in Film month. I did think back to Ken Burn's WAR documentary especially in one scene, where some American GI POW's in Japan stand and stare at her as she was safe on a train. Heart wrenching.

Go to TCM.com and put in a request to show it again if you missed it. I think it is worth seeing again. Would also like to see it re-made.

I thought it was an awesome film! I was amazed at the humanization of the Japanese and seeing one of the few films that portrays the Japanese homefront during WW2.

The only problems I had with the film was Baker's annoying accent and...

Spoilers...

The death of her husband at the end...I mean wtf! That really pissed me off! The whole movie was awesome and they finally made it through the war ok and then bam...out of nowhere the guy is dying! Argh...why couldn't it have just been a happy ending... Though...having come here I have learned that this was based on a true story so...I guess it would be wrong to alter it...this just goes to show you that real life sucks!
