Box office bomb

It's hard to believe that this film was a box-office bomb. Does anyone know what kind of reviews it got in it's release? Most box-office bombs I know gotten terrible reviews like Disney's Return To Oz from 1985. This film could of been over-shadowed by the success of West Side Story though.

It was no surprise to me that it bombed! I was around 7 or 8 when this came out and it bored the daylights out of me at that age! My kids preferred the Laurel and Hardy version and I prefer the one with Drew Barrymore. At one time I had all 3 but got rid of this one and kept the other two.I gave it a second try when I got it for my kids but I still couldn't stand it and they were as bored as I was when I first saw it.

I'm an Annette fan and even I thought it was very boring. I'm sure Disney put alot of money into this film. His previous movies were pretty good. I just don't know how he dropped the ball on this one. I think it was a "bomb" because of word of mouth.

It was Disney's attempt to compete with the MGM musicals. Without a doubt, this fell far short.

An operetta about a place called "Toyland" is hardly the stuff of a Judy Garland or Gene Kelly opus, much less a concept made totally obsolete with the coming of sophisticated musicals like "West Side Story" and "Gypsy."

Also, the film is just not that well-made. Disney was completely out of his league with this.

For some reviews, consult "The Disney Films" by Leonard Maltin. There's something in there about appealing to nothing but the "baby talk" crowd.

Disney very nearly didn`t go ahead with plans for MARY POPPINS because of the failure of this film.

Fortunately they did anyway!!

This is the VERY FIRST TIME I've heard that this movie bombed. It had EVERYTHING that a good movie musical should have, beautiful scenery, lovely music, fine dancing. What do ya'll want to see, lots of bloody killings with the blood and guts flowing, body parts flying, ect. With lots of kinky sex included? I was five going on six when I viewed it, and it didn't bore me ONE LITTLE BIT!! Ya'll just have poor taste, that's all.
