Why would imdb let someone put up that pretentious 'plot'?

"The point of this film is that the leading character and the audience are experiencing the feeling of deja vu throughout. The plot itself is not really important."

And this is what is represented on the main page?

I can get this crap from the guy who sits next to me in film class. The film doesn't need to be exlained to me in the synopsis, what happened to the original summary? Imdb is classier than this. Not to be snooty, this is coming from a guy who's favorite film is Maximum Overdrive. But c'mon, people. They shouldn't let that get up there. I like this site far too much to see crap like that up there.

On another note, the film was excellent and I'm watching it again tonight!

Yeah, that is idiotic. I hadn't noticed it before but you are right, it shouldn't be there. These real mystery films often make people write silly things when they try to put it in simple words while not really "getting it" (not to say that I would have the ultimate answer to this spectacular film ;) ).

And hell yes, Maximum Overdrive rocked back in the day! I haven't seen it in a long while, though... But I saw it many many times when I was young.

Yeah, thanks for the reply. Hopefully it can be appealed somehow. It just seems dumb. I think it must be some random computer selected thing or something.

People hate Maximum Overdrive but I always thought it was a unique film compared to other American horror films of the period. Another film that had a similar "everything but the kitchen sink" fun vibe was fellow 1986 production Big Trouble In Little China, another film that performed poorly at the box office and was seemingly misunderstood by audiences. Both movies not got a fair shake during their initial run but have found small cult audiences in years since.

Heh, that's another film that I've seen many times in the past! These film's really weren't afraid to laugh at themselves but still at the same time had certain sincerity. And quite imaginative stuff too. I have always found Kurt Russell as charismatic actor. Surely you have seen the 80s remake of [/The Thing?

And speaking of strange little films, I even liked Eddie Murphy's The Golden Child :)

When I have a hard time following a film, I go to the synopsis section of its IMDB page. This one is more like a review from a school paper. Someone needs to change it! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054632/plotsummary?ref_=tt_stry_pl#synopsis

The plot section of the Wiki page doesn't exactly help either.
