Of the people who find it random or unfathomable...

...how many of them have read Bioy Casares little novel "The Invention of Morel"?

While I won't claim that I've disclosed this film fully or that the book explains the plot, a lot of the film falls into place if you have read that book. Granted this is not an adaptation, neither is acknowledged officially by Robbe-Grillet as influenced by, the truth is the film gets a lot less frustrating and slightly less odd, when you take into consideration what happens in the novel.

Though Thomas Beltzer also recognizes similar aspects on his great essay for Senses of Cinema, I went and watched the film without being aware of that essay. Having read the book some 5 years ago, I immediately noticed something familiar to it, some sort of bond between the two pieces, which made the viewing of a lot more pleasant an relaxed than it would have been, had I not read "The Invention of Morel".

For people struggling with "reading" the film, I would advise you to take a look at Bioy Casares' book, it's short and easy to read.

-No. I've got nobody else to remember.
