Assol/Isolde?

Interesting that on the DVD her name is changed from "Assol" to "Isolde" in the English dubbing though in the subtitles it remains "Assol". Maybe because "Assol" sounds too much like "ass****"?

The French version of the name "Isolde" is "Yseult" which could be transliterated into Russian as "Assol". My big question is where is this story set? Some of the names are English and others sound Russian or French or Norwegian. I say Brittany.

From his writings one does not recognize Alexander Green as a Russian. His pen name sounds un-Russian. His works, including SCARLET SAILS, are set in a mythical "Western" land where places have such un-Russian names as Caperna, Lisse, and Zurbagan, and people are called Asole, Grey, Longren, and Thomas Harvey.

It is unfortunate that changes are made, usually by mistake, in translation from Russian to English.

Alexander Grin is sometimes Alexander Green,
Scarlet Sails are sometimes Crimson Sails,
