Woman with whom Maddelena lived

The film was impressive, though I had a hard time with the subtitles. On thing I missed - who was the woman with whom Maddelena and later Stella lived, and what's her relation to Accatone?

At the beginning of the film the pimp who comes to the house and later beats Maddalena knows Nannina, and mentions that her husband is in jail. He later thanks Accattone for taking her in. As far as I can tell she is Cicio's wife. So after Maddalena gets her former pimp Cicio locked up, Accattone takes her and Cicio's family, although it's hard to see how he's supporting them later when he and Stella are broke. Even if he is the arrangement is typically parasitic.

And I agree that it is incomprehensible why someone would put white subtitles in a film that are sometimes invisible.

The truth is that there is a big "hole" in the storyline where an explanation of the relationship between Accattone and Nannina should be. It's doubtful that the house where this woman and her brood lives is Accatone's place because he is never shown actually living there until after he brings Stella there with her suitcases. For a guy who brags about the jewelry, the watch, and the car that came with "the good life" of being a pimp, Accattone also surely would've had a better place to live than that dump. Even why Maddelena was shown seeming to live there with Nannina and her kids at the beginning of the film is never made clear. She surely couldn't be living there because Ciccio, Nannina's now jailed husband, was once her pimp, because the film never directly mentions that Maddelena ever had a pimp before Accattone, and she professes to be in love with Accattone too. The fact is that the issue that the posting that started this thread squarely points at a big "hole" in an already unremarkable, and not very well thought out screenplay.
