i have been trying to find this out, too, and i can't figure it out!! no one seems to know ...

i cant figure it out either and its really frustrating!
If you've seen the movie bobby, its the same kind of dog (i think) and no one knows what that is either!

No way the charlie in the first film is a bearded collie.........I had a bearded collie and he was nothing like charlie....probably a mutt but looks like he has some cairn terrier in him. The charlie in the 2nd film however looks like he maybe could be part beardie....

When I was watching this I was thinking Charlie was non other then Bengi. If not Charlie was the same breed. A Hinze 57.

I recently had the chance to view some episodes of Hotel de Paree, an old tv series from 1959-1960, the same period as Professor, and Earl Holliman's character in that show has a dog named Useless that looks a lot like Charlie in Professor. He even raises his ears in the same cute way sometimes. I can't find any trainer info in the credits for the show. It would be interesting to know if it's the same dog. Since it's around the same time, it could have been.

the dog is most likely a mutt, or Heinz 57 (a little bit of lots of different breeds). I looked up "dog breeds" in google, and found a site with pictures and description, and the closest I could find (other than bearded collie) looks to be, a Polish Lowland Sheepdog

I think the dog may be the same Skye terrier that was in Disney's "Greyfriar's Bobby" which was made at about the same time.
