FINAL SEASON ON ANTENNATV

AntennaTV is presently airing the final season of this show.
And I must say that I agree with those posters who have said that this season should never have been made!

Ray Fulmer and Lynn Borden couldn't act their ways out of paper bags!
Julia Benjamin added nothing to the show.
It was almost as though Shirley Booth was doing a one-woman show.

But what I miss most of all were those beautiful Ford convertibles from the opening credits and throughout the series.
Of course, when the show changed networks, Ford was dropped as its sponsor.

BTW, I find it surprising how easily Harold adapted to being separated from his parents.
I'm guessing that he was much closer to Hazel than to them, and he would freak out if he was forced to leave her.
Which was the real reason he didn't go to Iraq with George and Dorothy.

I think Mr. B was a big part of this show. Ray Fulmer couldn't replace Don DeFore. Plus Ray and Lynn were just way too young. I bought the 1st 4 seasons on dvd and was thinking of buying season 5 (before seeing any of them). I thought well how bad could it be? I then caught a few episodes on Antenna and decided not to. I'm glad I never did.

No! That's not true at all, Elvis takes 50% of everything I earn!

Ironically, Mr. B seemed more hip than Steve, in his own relaxed way. DeFore had wit & subtlety in his performance, playing Mr. B as someone who might be somewhat set in his ways, but wasn't unaware of the world around him; Fulmer was more forced & frankly seemed more "square" as a result. At least to me.

That last season was horrible. First of all, the new premise was depressing -- Mr. B and Missy unloads Hazel and Harold on his brother. Hazel has to leave the Sunshine Girls and Barney and the rest of her friends. And then, Hazel becomes a supporting character in her own show. I don't know if Shirley Booth was sick or just over it, but in some of those episodes, she only appeared in two or three scenes.

I just read Shirley Booth was very ill that final season

I read that Ray Fulmer hated the scripts, but was impressed with what Shirley Booth could do with her role. He said it was a major lesson in acting.
