Hazel location

Is it ever revealed or are there any good theories as to what city and state the Baxter's and Hazel lived in. Or is this a mystery like in Leave it to Beaver? By the way is that the Cleaver house they live in? I know the drive way and garage would have to have been moved to the opposite side of the house than when the Cleavers "had it". I watched this show growing up and have recently started watching some episodes and have noticed cities such as Susanville, Monroe and Jefferson mentioned. Cities with these names can be found in California and also in Ohio. I've heard New York and Ohio suggested as possible locations.

I think it was supposed to be on the east coast. I saw that Scherherazade episode last week (one of the worst ones if not the worst one while DeFore/Blake were still on it) and they said Hazel was driving from the east coast to California.

I think you're right. I believe the contradictions were intentional so as to throw the viewers of and keep them guessing on both Hazel and LITB.

There definitely were contradictions but I can't recall any "Leave it to Beaver" episode where there is surfing on the ocean.

Like many older Hollywood movies it was quite common for TV shows to be situated in a fictional community whose geographical location is never clearly indicated.

With regard to my last comment concerning "Leave it to Beaver", I just saw an episode where there is reference to a surf board. Beaver asks his mother if he can buy one. He tells her he doesn't intend to ride it, just bring it to the beach.

There's no reference to the ocean in this episode or in any Leave it to Beaver episode, to the best of my knowledge. The family refers to a lake resort in a few episodes and the name is probably fictitious.

I know little about surfing, but to my limited knowledge regarding same I've never heard of it being performed anywhere in the U.S. besides the Pacific Ocean. And of course it's always been associated with Southern California.

Concerning Leave it to Beaver aside from this one reference, I'm unaware of anything depicted in the series to indicate that "Mayfield" is intended to be in California. I recall the episode where Beaver runs up a big long distance telephone charge by calling Don Drysdale at Dodger Stadium. This would seem to indicate that Mayfield is located hundreds of miles away.

It's debatable whether the show's creators actually had a specific location in mind, and I'd say the same holds true for "Hazel".

Good points. Re LITB, I've always felt there was a purposeful connection with the Cleveland, Ohio area. Ward makes references to his childhood on a farm in the Shaker Heights area. The latter is of course a Cleveland suburb. Moreover, there are also two Cleveland suburbs named Mayfield (or Mayfield Village) and Mayfield Heights. But as you point out the approximate location can shift to suit plot devices such as the Alaskan fishing boat episode.

Concerning Hazel I saw an episode today where George Baxter states that their community has "the finest police department in the East". Of course, this takes in a very large area even if one eliminates New England.

It seems to me that the state of New York is mentioned (in the first season...I think) and they live outside of Manhatten.

In the first season, it's brought out that they live in Rye, New York.
Rye is 25 miles from Manhatten.
