You are correct. I saw the reference in the end credits. The thing that has me puzzled is that I'm almost certain that the footage from "The Defenders" used on "Boston Legal" featured William Shatner, and Ralph Bellamy. Bellamy isn't listed in the IMDb credits for "The Defenders", nor is "The Defenders" listed among the credits on Bellamy's IMDb page.

<Edit> Clarification: I only thought I saw "The Defenders" listed in the end credits of "Boston Legal". I learned from reading this thread http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054531/board/nest/49874629 that the credit I actually saw, and the program featuring Bellamy, and Shatner was actually a couple of episodes of "Studio One" called "The Defender: Part 1" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054531/board/nest/49874629, and "The Defender: Part 2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0394921/.
